K-12 Draft Curriculum
On March 29, 2021, Alberta Education released the K-6 Draft Curriculum for public consumption and feedback (just before Prairie Land schools recessed for Easter Break). On April 9, Prairie Land put out a call for teacher volunteers who would engage in a critical and systematic review of this document in its entirety, with the intent that as a school division, Prairie Land could provide intentional, accurate and meaningful feedback to Alberta Education.
Within days, teams of teachers across Prairie Land from Kindergarten to Grade 6 stepped forward to serve on the working group, and a focused examination was done for English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education and Wellness, Visual Arts and Music for Kindergarten to Grade 6.
The Executive Summary identifies the findings from the working group, with the intent to inform our schools and communities about the content and feasibility of implementing the Draft Curriculum. This summary and the original review documents will be presented to Alberta Education as feedback.
The Prairie Land Board of Trustees would like to acknowledge the time and effort of the seventeen teachers that volunteered to present a deeper understanding of such an important document for the sake of all stakeholders of Prairie Land Public School Division. The intention and commitment displayed speaks to the passion that Prairie Land staff have for their profession, the students in their care, and the art and science of teaching.
