Park Etiquette
Heritage Park Historical Village is full of delicate artifacts that are difficult to repair and replace. We ask that everyone is mindful, keeping their hands to themselves, and helping to preserve this resource. A Heritage Park staff member will inform you if something can be touched/handled.
Informing your students of these expectations prior to your visit is appreciated.
Heritage Park’s steam train will be running and requires everyone to be aware of how to stay safe around the train. Please discuss the following with your students.
- Never put objects on the train tracks, they can fly off and hurt someone.
- Never cross in front of a moving train until it has come to a complete stop.
- Never walk or climb between parked or moving railway cars.
- Never cross in front of a train or locomotive that is ringing its bell. This is a warning signal that the train is about to move or is approaching the crossing.
- Always use the designated level crossing to cross train tracks.
- Always obey the signs and signals near railway crossings, flashing lights and bells mean the train is coming, so be safe and stay away.
- Always – STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN before you cross a train track, just to make sure it is safe.
- If you can’t see the train crew, they can’t see you!
